Since the debut of the Canadian Maple Leaf Series in 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint has consistently featured Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. However, beginning in 1990, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to use designs created by Canadian artists instead of British portraits of the monarch from the Royal Mint.
With the 2024 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf Coin, King Charles III makes his debut on Canadian bullion coins. This design, created by a Canadian artist, is the third monarch portrait to be featured and the first portrayal of Charles III. In line with tradition, His Majesty’s left-profile relief is a contrast to Her Late Majesty’s right-profile effigy.
