Each of the 2024 1 oz Pitcairn Islands Silver Bounty Coins available here is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These 1 oz silver coins come individually packaged in plastic flips for secure delivery. The HMS Bounty release marks the beginning of this notable new collection from Tower Mint.
The HMS Bounty is renowned for the mutiny that took place on April 28, 1789. Fletcher Christian led the mutiny against the ship’s captain, Lieutenant William Bligh. This historic event has been portrayed in numerous books, films, and other media. After the mutiny, the Bounty was sailed by the mutineers to Pitcairn Island, where it was stripped and burned in January 1790 to avoid detection and to prevent desertion.
The obverse of the 2024 Pitcairn Islands Silver Bounty Coins showcases His Majesty King Charles III. This is the first-generation effigy of His Majesty, designed by Glyn Davies. The left-profile relief shows Charles III without a crown. Switching to a left-profile relief is customary from one monarch to the next, with male monarchs typically depicted without a crown.
The reverse of the 2024 1 oz Silver Bounty Coins features a depiction of the HMS Bounty. Initially, a merchant vessel named Bethia, the British Royal Navy purchased and refitted her in 1787 for a mission to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and transport them to the West Indies.
