The HMS Bounty set sail on December 23, 1787, from Spithead, England. Commanded by Lieutenant William Bligh, the ship had a crew of 46 men, including Fletcher Christian as Master’s Mate. After a journey of over 27,000 miles (43,450 km), the Bounty finally reached Tahiti on October 26, 1788, ten months after leaving England. The crew then spent five months on the island collecting and potting breadfruit plants.
