The tiger found in the Korean Peninsula is the Continental or Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica), often referred to as the Siberian tiger. Tigers in Korea inhabited diverse habitats, including temperate forests, mixed woodlands, and mountainous regions. This final design showcases the tiger with Hallasan National Park in the background, emphasizing the natural beauty of the region on the medal’s reverse.

Hallasan is a notable national park on Jeju Island, known for the shield volcano that shares its name. This volcano is the highest point in South Korea, reaching 6,388 feet. The park features stunning views, including a lake within the volcano, which is beautifully depicted on the medal.

The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Tiger Silver Medal presents a powerful image of the Korean tiger. In this design, the tiger is shown in mid-leap, emerging from the forest, likely pursuing its prey. The obverse also includes an engraved paw print and the name of the Hallasan volcano in the background.
