This behavior helps them conserve energy, as their low-energy diet consists mainly of eucalyptus leaves, which are tough and low in nutrients. Though they move slowly, koalas are skilled climbers, using their strong limbs and claws to navigate the tree canopy. They tend to be solitary, each adult establishing and defending its own territory.

Each 2024 5 oz Proof Australian Silver Koala Coin comes housed in a Perth Mint display case. The black case features a clear acrylic lid and includes a colorful koala-themed shipper. The obverse of the 2024 Proof Australian Silver Koala Coin features the first-generation portrait of King Charles III for Australian coins. Designed by Dan Thorne, the effigy shows His Majesty in left-profile relief without a crown.

On the reverse of 2024 5 oz Proof Silver Koala Coins, the design depicts a koala clinging to a tree trunk, surrounded by eucalyptus leaves. Koalas feed primarily on eucalyptus leaves, which are toxic to most animals.
