In 2021, the United States Mint celebrated a significant milestone for its historic silver dollars. The Morgan Dollar and Peace Dollar were the last circulating silver dollar designs in the US. In a unique transition, both designs were minted in the same year, 1921, as the US Mint phased out the Morgan Dollar for the new Peace Dollar. In 1904, the United States Mint stopped producing silver dollars for circulation, ending the Morgan Dollar design series. Congress authorized the restart of silver dollar coining in 1918, but it didn’t happen until 1921. When coining resumed, the Morgan Dollar design was chosen to kickstart the program.

The coin’s original designer, George T. Morgan, was the 7th Chief Engraver in 1921. He had to recreate his original dies from 1878 for the coining process. The Morgan Dollar was minted until mid-December 1921, when the US Mint introduced the new Peace Dollar. The year 2021 marked the centennial of the final Morgan Dollars and the first-ever Peace Dollars.

On the obverse of the 2024 Morgan Silver Dollars, you’ll see a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Created in 1878, this Greco-Roman portrait shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with a coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair.

The reverse side of the 2024 Morgan Dollar Coin features another of Morgan’s designs. This heraldic eagle shows a front-facing American bald eagle with widespread wings. The eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

These 2024 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor imperfections. These minor flaws are limited to tiny contact marks or hairlines and must be outside the primary focal points. First Strike coins are those the PCGS receives for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
