The final release in The Royal Mint’s Myths and Legends Series highlights a character from the oldest known poem in Old English. The epic tale of Beowulf is one of the most significant works of Anglo-Saxon literature, written between the 8th and 11th centuries by an anonymous poet. Today, 2025 1 oz British Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coins are available from BullionMax.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2025 1 oz British Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. As the third release in the Beowulf Series and the final design in the Myths and Legends collection, this coin marks the conclusion of a celebrated series from The Royal Mint. Coins are available individually in plastic flips, in acrylic tubes of 25, or in boxes of 500 that contain 20 tubes.
The poem Beowulf, composed in alliterative verse, follows the legendary Geatish warrior Beowulf. He embodies the heroic ideals of courage, loyalty, and strength. As a young warrior, Beowulf travels to Denmark to assist King Hrothgar, whose great hall, Heorot, has been terrorized by the monstrous Grendel.
The obverse of the 2025 British Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coin features a portrait of King Charles III. This design, introduced in 2022 by Martin Jennings, is the first official effigy of Charles III to appear on British coinage. The left-profile relief shows the King without a crown.
The reverse of 2025 1 oz Silver Beowulf and the Dragon Coins captures an aged Beowulf in combat with a dragon. In his final test, Beowulf—now a king—faces a powerful dragon after a stolen treasure enrages the beast. Though age has diminished his strength, Beowulf remains resolute, determined to defend his people. This battle is his most dangerous yet, as the dragon’s fiery breath and venom pose a greater threat than any he has encountered before. More than just a physical confrontation, this moment represents the culmination of Beowulf’s heroic journey and the end of an era.
