The Ojibwe people, also known as the Chippewa, formed several communities along the shores of Lake Michigan—especially in the northern and eastern parts. These included the Grand Traverse Band, Little Traverse Bay Bands, and the Sault Tribe. Each group developed its own customs, while still keeping the shared traditions, language, and spiritual beliefs of the Anishinaabe. Right now, BullionMax has 2025 1 oz Proof Native America the Beautiful Michigan Silver Coins available.
Coin Highlights:
Each coin arrives from the mint inside a protective capsule and is housed in a themed display box. You’ll also receive a Certificate of Authenticity with each one. These are proof coins, which means they have frosted designs and shiny, mirror-like backgrounds that make the artwork really stand out.
Lake Michigan was central to Ojibwe life. The lake’s plentiful fish—like whitefish, lake trout, and sturgeon—supported their diet and trade. It also served as a travel route. The Ojibwe used lightweight birchbark canoes to move between their settlements, helping them stay connected and active in seasonal trading.
On the obverse of the 2025 Proof Native America the Beautiful Michigan Silver Coin, you’ll see members of the Ojibwe band standing near a wigwam by Lake Michigan. These wigwams were round shelters built with bent saplings, such as maple or ash, and covered with birchbark. They were built to endure the tough winters of the Great Lakes area, but could also be moved during seasonal changes.
The reverse of the coin displays the shared symbol used across the entire series. It features the head of an American bald eagle at the center of an eight-pointed star. Arrowheads are positioned between each point of the star to complete the design.
