The Pony Express is iconic as a symbol of the American frontier and the nation’s first excursion into rapid shipping. Its hard-charging riders carved out a legendary legacy despite operating for only eighteen months, connecting the new state of California to the state in the east starting in April of 1860. Their story is celebrated by the 5 oz SilverTowne Pony Silver Bar, now available to you for online purchase from BullionMax.
Bar Highlights:
The United States explored several possible methods of connecting the established eastern states to California, including stagecoaches, before settling on a network of individual riders who would constantly switch out between rider-horse teams at a chain of stations from Missouri to California. This network, the Pony Express, moved parcels and mail from April 1860 to October 1861, and paved the way for the transcontinental telegraph.
Each SilverTowne Pony Silver Bar pays tribute to the influential legacy of those intrepid riders, containing five Troy ounces of pure silver and ships in a protective plastic sleeve. The team at BullionMax fully insures shipments against any chance of loss or damage in transit.
Incuse-struck designs appear on each bar’s obverse face. A Pony Express rider appears in left-profile relief, riding between stations at a dead gallop, accompanied by inscriptions to verify the bar’s metal content, weight and purity, and the SilverTowne mint mark. The reverse features a blank field with the natural textures and striations that come with the silver casting process.
Although the Pony Express went bankrupt in just eighteen months, it left a highly romanticized image that would go on to become emblematic of the pioneering spirit of the American West. This celebratory bar is part of a series produced by the Indiana-based SilverTowne Mint, one of the largest and most respected private minting operations in America. Founded as a small coin and antique shop in 1949, SilverTowne has gone on to become a world-renowned producer over the decades, known for a wide range of precious metal products.
