Why Arnold Palmer?

Arnold Palmer (1929-2016) wasn’t just one of the greatest and most charismatic players in the history of golf. He was the quintessential American icon of personal achievement and charity. He was a modest, plain-spoken, “just-folks” guy who took the hoity-toity sport of golf off the elite country clubs and made it a popular sport that anyone could play. 

He’s most famous for his golfing victories. He won 92 championships including 62 PGA Tour trophies. His most famous wins were his four Masters Tournament triumphs, the 1960 U.S. Open and both the 1961 and 1962 Open Championships. To date, he’s still fifth on the Tour’s all-time victory list. Palmer became one of thirteen charter inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame. 

And his recognition extended far beyond his beloved sport. Palmer was awarded both the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s two highest civilian honors. 
His philanthropic work lives on in Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation to help children and youth. The Foundation built the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies Center, The Howard Philips Center for Children & Families, the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve. Palmer recognized that celebrity wasn’t an end in itself. He was determined to make the world a better place than he found it.
