  • Issued in 1864 in Richmond, Virginia!
  • Issued a face value of $10 by the Confederate States of America.
  • Obverse features Confederate soldiers on horseback pulling a cannon and a bust of Robert M.T. Hunter.
  • Reverse includes only the denomination of the note.
  • Very Fine condition, or better.

At the start of the Civil War, the Confederate States of America began issuing both notes and coins. The first series of Confederate Notes was authorized by the Confederate Congress on March 9, 1861. Throughout the war, these paper notes were mainly produced in Richmond, Virginia, or Columbia, South Carolina.

Confederate currency has several unique features. Physically, no two Confederate Notes are exactly the same since most were cut from printed sheets by hand, not machine. This results in uneven edges from one note to the next. Additionally, many notes were given handwritten serial numbers and signatures instead of being stamped or printed.

On the obverse of the 1864 Confederate States of America Notes, you’ll find an ornate design. The central image shows Confederate soldiers on horseback pulling a cannon. In the bottom-right corner, there is a portrait of Robert M.T. Hunter, a significant figure who served as a U.S. Representative from Virginia and later as the Confederate States Secretary of State and a Confederate Senator.

The reverse of the 1864 $10 CSA Notes features a simple design. It displays the word “TEN” at the center with the numeric value “10” in each corner.

These 1864 $10 Confederate States of America Notes are available in Very Fine condition, or better. Notes in this condition may show some folds and mild soiling from handling and circulation. Those in the higher range of Very Fine condition will show fewer signs of handling, less soiling, and fewer fold marks.
