The most affordable version of the famous Gold American Eagle Bullion Coin collection, the 1/10 troy-ounce coins carry a face value of $5 and typically sell at just a small premium over spot prices.
Like the other sizes in this series, the 1/10 oz versions were first minted in 1986. By the mid-1990s, it actually surpassed the 1-oz version in total sales. Because of their size, price, and availability, they make for ideal gifts or as additions for investors and collectors alike.
This coin, as part of the Gold American Eagle series, is fully backed by the United States government for its weight, purity, and content. It is certified 22-karat and comes in at 1/10 troy ounce of fine gold.
Like the rest of the series, the 1/10-oz versions feature Lady Liberty, as originally sculpted by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in the first decade of the 20th century. Along with this depiction on the obverse (front) side, is the inscription “LIBERTY” and the year of mintage.
The reverse (back) side is the famous sculpture by Miley Busiek of a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a female eagle and their child perched on a nest. Busiek was commissioned for this image for this very coin series in 1986.
