Australia has been minting gold kangaroo coins since 1986 (although at first, they called them “gold nuggets”). The entire series was renamed the Australian gold kangaroo in 1990. This makes sense, because these gold bullion coins receive a new kangaroo-themed reverse design every single year. As you’d expect, this makes gold kangaroo coins a favorite among collectors who simply must have one of every design.

In 2022, the 1 oz Australian kangaroo features a pair of Australia’s native red kangaroos, a mother and joey, bounding across the Outback.

Here’s what Perth Mint has to say about the 2022 Australian kangaroo design:

No wildlife symbol more powerfully equates with Australia than our beloved kangaroo. In 2022, the marsupial famed for the way it bounds on elongated hind legs, is portrayed with its joey bounding across a flat, grassy plain with hillocks on the horizon… Skipping over scorched red dirt and spinifex, or seeking shade in sweet-scented eucalypt forest, the kangaroo is as unique as the ancient landscapes it symbolises… The Australian Kangaroo 2022 1oz gold bullion coin portrays a kangaroo and its joey bounding across a flat, grassy plain with hillocks on the horizon.

By the way, red kangaroos are HUGE creatures! They’re not only the largest marsupial in the world, they’re also Australia’s largest native mammal. They inhabit just about every part of Australia, preferring scrubland, grassy prairies and the desert. They avoid forested regions (they’re probably worried about banging their heads…)

Back to the gold coin: As you’d expect, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of every Australian gold kangaroo coin. As of 2022, Perth Mint uses the 2015 Jody Clark portrait created for the Royal Mint of England, showing the Queen in right-profile wearing her uncle George IV’s state diadem crown. This is probably the last time we’ll see Queen Elizabeth II on the gold kangaroo, so if you want

1/10 oz Australian kangaroo gold coin highlights:

  • Contains 1/10 troy oz of 0.9999 (“four nines fine”) pure gold
  • 36th year in the 1 oz Australian gold kangaroo series
  • Limited mintage (for example, only 200,000 1/10 oz kangaroo gold coins were minted for 2022)
  • Australian government-Issued with a face value of $15
  • Updated reverse design every year (2022 features a kangaroo and its joey exploring a grassy plain)
  • Micro-laser engraved security feature on the reverse stymies counterfeiting
  • Coins arrive in protective plastic flip cases to preserve their brilliant, uncirculated condition
  • Random year (including the current year) of mintage means you might receive duplicate designs in the same order

About the Australian gold kangaroo series

Every year since 1990, gold kangaroo coins from Perth Mint have been available to bullion buyers worldwide in the current format. Each year, Perth Mint changes up the design and the style of the kangaroo(s) featured on the reverse of the 1 oz and fractional gold kangaroo coins (1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz). They also mint a massive 1 kg gold kangaroo, but this one uses the classic Stuart Devlin-designed kangaroo surrounded by rays of sun.

The 2022 installment of the Australian gold kangaroo series includes variable mintages depending on the weight of gold. Both the 1 oz gold kangaroo featured here and the 1 kg super-kangaroo have an unlimited mintage, while 2022’s fractional gold kangaroos all have fixed mintage limits.

However, we will not accept responsibility if you have left instructions with any carriers or delivery services to leave parcels unattended for you without the need for a signature, or if you have given the carrier instructions to leave your package with anyone other than the addressee. This includes but is not limited to a building manager, neighbor, a business mailroom, drop-off location such as Mail Boxes, etc., The UPS Store, the Military Postal Service, etc.
Additionally, we will not assume responsibility for packages that are signed for by apartment/complex building management, a business mailroom, the Military Postal Service, or any person(s) that are not the addressee listed on the order. When we ship to you, if metals are lost or damaged in transit, it is our responsibility to pursue any claim with the insurance company. All UPS shipments ship with a “No Will Call” restriction, meaning the package cannot be picked up from a UPS location or just left at the delivery address. If nobody is available at the delivery address to sign and accept delivery, the package will be returned to us.

Where do you ship orders from?
All orders will ship from our warehouse in Los Angeles, California. We conceal the return address on all packages so as to not hint at the contents of the package.

No. UPS 3-Day Air service excludes shipments to UPS Stores, as well as Alaska, Hawaii and APO addresses.

My package appears to have been damaged or tampered with. What should I do?
We recommend you refuse any shipment that appears to be damaged or tampered with because the shipping insurance ends once signed for and/or delivered. When refused, the package(s) will return to BullionMax for inspection.
If you have taken possession of a damaged or tampered package, please save all packaging and contact call us at (800) 729-3202 during normal business hours of 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT) Monday – Friday within 48 hours for further instructions. Failure to notify us of damage or tampering within 48 hours from signature or delivery date may impact our ability to cover your claim.

What happens if my order is lost in transit?
We see very few delivery issues with our carriers, but sometimes delays do occur. In those situations, we appreciate your patience to wait a little longer for your package (at least 7 business days) before contacting us. Should the package not arrive, an investigation of the shipment is required before any order is reshipped or refunded. We may ask you to file a police report if it appears loss is due to theft or tampering. Your assistance speeds up the investigation and the sooner we complete it, the sooner we can resolve the missing order.
