Since 1979, the Canadian gold maple leaf coin has been Canada’s official gold bullion coin. Originally available in only the 1 oz weight, in 1982 the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) began creating fractional maple leaf coins to make buying gold bullion more accessible and affordable to people around the world.

Since 1982, the single most popular fractional maple leaf has been the 1/10 oz gold coin. We currently have a variety of years in stock, ranging from 1982 to today, all in brilliant, uncirculated condition

1/10 oz Canadian maple leaf fractional gold coin highlights:

  • Minted annually since 1982
  • Contains 1/10 oz of 0.9999 pure gold in brilliant, uncirculated, fresh-from-the-mint condition
  • Official legal tender of Canada with a face value of $5
  • Obverse includes Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait (design varies by year)
  • Reverse bears Walter Ott’s iconic sugar maple leaf design
  • Individual coins ship in protective plastic flip cases, and orders of 10+ are secured in a mint-issued protective tube before shipping

The 1/10 oz Canadian gold maple leaf through the years

Because of the range of mintages we have in stock (which changes regularly), we cannot guarantee the year of issue you’ll receive. We’ll ship you the coins we have on-hand when we receive your order, which could include coins from the current year.

Like all gold maple leaf coins, these 1/10 oz coins have varying obverse designs based on year of mintage:

  • 1982-1989: Arnold Machin’s portrait
  • 1990-2003: the Dora de Pedery-Hunt’s effigy of Her Majesty
  • 2004+: Susanna Blunt’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth (the first to show her without a crown)

Also depending on the year of issue, fractional gold maple leaf coins may incorporate all the anti-counterfeiting technologies their big brothers have into a smaller package. It’s pretty impressive! Specifically, those anti-counterfeiting and verification features are:

  • Micro-engraved miniature maple leaf with year of mintage (visible only under magnification) - 2013+
  • Bullion DNA™ authentication at any participating location - 2015+
  • Radial lines in the background (or field) of both sides of the coin, precisely machined to within microns – which have the delightful side-effect of providing a spectacular light-diffracting pattern - 2015+

A word about condition

Because maple leaf coins are minted in very pure (but not very durable) 0.9999 pure gold, you may notice minor flaws such as unevenness in the luster, or contact marks resulting from striking the blanks during production. Alas, gold bullion maple leaf coins all share the risk of cosmetic imperfections such as these.
