Product Details

Looking for a piece of American gold history? The American Gold Buffalo made waves upon its 2006 debut, marking the first-ever 24-karat gold coin from the US Mint with .9999 purity. Highly sought after by both collectors and investors, these coins, available in bullion and proof versions, remain a perennial favorite. Now, at BullionMax, secure your 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin graded MS69 by NGC or PCGS, a testament to its superior quality.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes in a protective plastic slab from the NGC or PCGS!
  • Introduced in 2006!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Face value of $50 (USD) is backed by the American government.
  • Given a grade of Mint State 69 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Obverse presents the Native American chieftain in right-profile relief.
  • Reverse shows Black Diamond, the buffalo inspiration for the design.
  • Original design from 1913 by James Earle Fraser.

These 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins hail from various production years and are paired with diverse labels in the packaging. Since 2006, Gold Buffalo coins have been struck annually, with the inaugural year recording the highest mintage at 337,012 and 2012 marking the lowest at 100,000 coins.

All 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins offered here boast an MS69 grade, signifying full original mint luster as designated by PCGS or NGC. These near-perfect coins may exhibit a maximum of two minor flaws, usually limited to minuscule hairlines or contact marks outside the primary focal areas. These coins will arrive to you in protective plastic slabs.

The labels, sourced from PCGS and NGC, offer distinctions like First Strike/Early Release, denoting coins received for grading within the initial 30 days of issue by the US Mint. When buying multiples, you may receive coins with the same year of issue or the same labels.

James Earle Fraser’s 1913 redesign of the nation’s five-cent piece birthed the iconic Buffalo Nickel. On the obverse of the American Gold Buffalo Coin, a right-profile portrait of a Native American chieftain emerged, crafted from the features of three different tribal leaders of the early 20th century.

The reverse of the 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin features a left-profile image of a mighty buffalo, the American bison, inspired by Black Diamond, a resident of New York City’s Central Park Zoo in the early 20th century. In 2006, the 1 oz American Gold Buffalo coin revitalized Fraser’s design, maintaining its allure throughout subsequent releases.
