The U.S. Mint uses 20-coin protective tubes for storing and transporting smaller quantities of gold and silver American eagle bullion coins. (Buy a monster box of silver eagles and you’ll get 25 of these tubes, each holding 20 silver eagles.) Our tubes of silver eagles are straight from U.S. Mint, each one quarter full with 5 1 oz American eagle silver bullion coins from a random mintage year ranging from 1986-2021. All of these mintages feature the classic Type 1 reverse design. Please be aware that bullion-grade silver American eagles, although minted exclusively at the West Point facility, do not have a mintmark. (That’s one of most notable differences between U.S. Mint’s bullion and proof coins.)
Since 1986, the obverse of the American silver eagle has featured Adolph A. Weinman’s unforgettable “Walking Liberty” design originally developed for the 1916-1947 fifty-cent coin. There’s a reason it’s famous! We see Lady Liberty on center stage, walking forward as if to greet a guest, one arm bearing a bouquet of olive branches, the other extended in friendship. Her gown billows around her legs, and her shoulders are draped in a rippling American flag. The sun rises in the background of the scene, symbolizing a new dawn of freedom. “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” frame the scene, and the mintage year can be found under Lady Liberty’s sandaled feet.
The obverse displays a heraldic eagle behind a shield, as designed by John Mercanti in 1986 specifically for the silver eagle coin. The eagle’s wings are spread and it holds in its beak a banner that reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM” – Latin for “One from many” or “Out of many, one” – the motto of the United States. Additional inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.” Thirteen five-pointed stars above the eagle’s head represent the original 13 colonies at the founding of the United States of America in 1776.
Silver American eagle coins are one of the most in-demand silver bullion coins in the U.S. and worldwide. Silver eagles have always enjoyed a special place in the hearts of sound money enthusiasts here at home (and they’re often less expensive than junk silver coins, so the thrifty silver stacker loves them too). A quarter tube of 5 silver American eagles is a great place to start for a beginning stacker and leaves you with plenty of space to stack more…
